When each of my kids were in 4th grade or so, they did a project around their name. The question was, why did your parents name you (insert name). This post isn’t about my name, rather the name of my site.
Speak up yogi.
I began to circle back on this name and I thought the premise of my blog is to talk about things that I want to say, but really just don’t. Things about life, children, marriage, traveling, work, etc. However, not the kind of things that you talk about with friends or with small talk. Real topics, situations or circumstances that make you uncomfortable.
If in life our goal is to grow, evolve and become the best versions of ourselves, we must dig deep into ourselves and speak on it. Speak on things that matter. In that process begin to create a voice that is kind, loving and passionate to ourselves and others. The yogi part flows from the latter. Being a yogi isn’t just about the physical practice, but more about the spiritual aspect.
I began yoga in 2008. One day at the gym doing my usual routine, I quickly realized my routine was beginning to bore me. There was a yoga class gathering up when the instructor told me to hop in. It really wasn’t until 2015, when I found home at a local studio. Today, I am currently going through the 200 hour yoga teacher training. I wasn’t set on becoming a yoga teacher, but I know I want to be the best version of myself. What better way than to invest in myself and continue to expand.
Yoga is about finding freedom from restraints. To live a life in its fullest expression. You must be honest with yourself. Among other things, we must accept that the only person accountable for you, is you. So speak up yogi! And no, you don’t actually have to be a yogi to live a yogic life, but you do have to be intentional and hold yourself with integrity. Do the work, show up off and on the mat, but most of all speak up for who you are and who you want to become. In the end, the only person getting in the way is you.
